In yesterday’s budget, the chancellor stated that there would be no increase in duty beyond that which was already planned. He didn’t elaborate on that, but what this means is that excise duty will be going up by RPI. This translates into a 2p per pint rise in duty in addition to the swingeing price increases announced by many suppliers. Our experience so far is that a 10p per pint increase is not nearly enough to cover these rises and that 20p per pint is the minimum required in a lot of cases.
